"Time flies when you're having fun" - Said by every mom, everywhere.
Time has flown by here in West K, and yet there is still way more fun to be had! Next week we will be bustin' into our Rodeo study and getting ready for the Kindergarten Rodeo on Friday, May 22. I will let you know by the middle to end of next week what your children decide "to be" for the rodeo. A safe bet is they will need jeans and a western type shirt. This is many of your first experiences with the rodeo, as it is mine, so please bear with me with the learning curve. We will be having a Rodeo Breakfast after the assembly finishes back in the classroom. Anyone is welcome to attend! Thank you in advance to Christy Anderson for taking the lead on the breakfast! We do have an early dismissal that day. If you would like to take your child after the breakfast that is a-ok but please note that we do have Art class right before dismissal that day.

Content and Curriculum:
Next week we will begin our last Math In Focus chapter with is an introduction to money. However, through our daily calendar activities your children are already quite knowledgeable about the names of the different coins, their values and how to combine them to make different numbers. After we finish our last Math In Focus chapter we will do special math activities and games such as setting up a store so they can practice using coins to "purchase" items.
Next week during Writing Workshop we will be writing more poetry, selecting specific poems for the Poetry Cafe, and creating our poetry books. We look forward to sharing their incredible poems with you next Thursday!
During Reading Workshop we will continue to focus on metacognition strategies. Ask your children which strategies we have learned so far and what exactly metacognition means! Next week our lesson focuses will surround synthesizing.
especially Tonya Laden, who helped make my birthday so special!
