What fun we had this morning!  Thank you to everyone who was able to join in the publishing party this morning.  Courtney and I loved being able to talk with you all, have you explore the room and see the beaming smile on your child's face.  We will definitely plan to do this again!

Content and Curriculum:
During Writing Workshop next week we will begin a new kind of writing!  To go hand in hand with our Math In Focus Ordinal Number Chapter we will begin writing How-To Books.  Children will learn how to use ordinal numbers to help them sequence writing a book teaching someone else how to do something.  They will learn that they will now be the teacher in their books!  They will get to determine a topic that they feel they are an expert on.  Topics in the past have included:  How To Make Cereal, How To Do A Headstand, How To Kick A Ball - and many many more!

Our Reading Workshop lessons will continue to focus on the importance of comprehension.  We will sequence story events when retelling.  Rereading books is something we encourage.  Rereading leads to increased fluency, deeper comprehension and reading between the lines.  We have spoken to the kids about how it is just like rewatching a movie.  Everytime you watch it again, you learn something new!

Next week in Math we will continue talking about ordinal numbers.  You can encourage this at home by having them orally sequence what they did before school, how they got ready for dinner and the things they did to get ready for bed.

Three important letters came home in the Take Home Folder.  Please read them carefully and let me know if you have any questions.  We would appreciate receiving as much feedback as possible on the Math Survey.  Please feel free to hand it directly to me or sending it back in your child's Take Home Folder.
