Happy New Year!! 2015 is going to be a fabulous year! Winter break is a sacred time in the life of a child. Memories are created, traditions are practiced and special times are shared. Upon returning to school, they are ready to make a huge leap in their academic and social lives. This is my favorite time of the year as I get to watch the daily growth of your children.

Content and Curriculum:

We have begun a new chapter in our math curriculum. Please check the Take Home Folders tonight for information regarding our chapter and how you can support your child's learning at home. I have seen incredible growth this year in regards to the "math talk" your children have with me and with one another. Continue playing Dreambox!

During Reading and Writing Workshop we will continue having specific mini lessons to support the growth and development. Our lessons in reading will specifically target comprehension skills and discussing books during and after reading them. Readers don't just close a book after finishing reading and move onto another book. You can practice this at home when you read them a bedtime story! During our writing lessons we will focus on punctuation and adding s to the ends of words when writing our small moments. You can support your child at home by helping them plan a story on their fingers. Ask them what that means!

Our week with Ms. Collins has been seamless. She is an excellent addition to west K. Courtney jumps right in to help the kids, gives them hugs and makes them smile. We are all lucky and grateful to have her join our team!
