Twas the day after back to school night...

Thank you so much for joining us last
night at Back To School Night!

Things I forgot to say last night:
-Please make sure to send in a family photo so we can add it to our family wall.
-Lunch - your children have been very brave as we have told them that each day they must at least try each part of the main meal.

Important Dates and Reminders:
-September 12 - Scholastic Book Orders Due (They can either be handed into me or you can order the books online.  If you order online is does help save me some time and is quite easy to set up.)
-September 18 - West K Picture Day!
-September 22 - Fall Potluck at the Freyer home (thank you for hosting!)
-September 25 - Go Green With Graland
-September 28 - Graland Gallop
-October 2 - Breakfast with Dads/Special Friends - 7:30-8:10 Anschutz Commons
-October 22 - Math Night! 6:00-7:00

Notes:
-We did complete our West K Classroom Guidelines last week.  The boys and girls loved learning about a contract and when you sign your name to something you are agreeing to it.  Our West K Guidelines are:
1.  Take care of myself.
2.  Be listening.
3.  Keep my friends safe and happy.
4.  Try again and do your best!

Content and Curriculum:
As we look to next week we will continue to build upon many of the activities and lessons already learned.  During writing workshop we will be learning how authors add more!  "When you think you're done, you've just begun!"  We will use this mantra frequently during the year.  Students will learn there is always another detail they can add into their picture and another sound they can push into a word.

During math we will practice our number writing.  You can reinforce this at home by using the cheat sheet of how letters and numbers are formed that we gave you last night.  I bet the kids would love if you mounted the cheat sheet on construction paper and they hung it in their room.  Simple things make great wonders!

We will also continue to develop our fine motor skills.  We have noticed many students have struggled with using scissors and cutting accurately.  You can help them practice cutting at home by drawing a shape or squiggly line and asking them to cut it out.  Stringing beads is another fabulous activity.  We did that today - and made a pattern while doing it!
